Patients who are likely candidates for dental anesthesiology include:
- Toddlers and children with serious dental problems requiring extensive restorative work that otherwise would require multiple appointments and be distressing to the child
- People with dental phobia
- Those undergoing oral surgery or any extensive, invasive dental care
- Children and adults on the autism spectrum
- People with developmental disabilities who may be unable to follow instructions
- Patients with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia
- Those with Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy or other conditions that cause tremors or reduced motor function
- Patients with psychiatric conditions such as psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder
